Q. What are the different types of scholarships?
Ans : The scholarships are of two kinds:

• INR 125000 for a Management student
• INR 65000 for an Engineering student

Q. How many people would I be competing against while trying for this scholarship?
Ans : There are 20 engineering and 10 management colleges which have been invited to partner in the scholarship process. Within these institutes, each academic years’ top 20 students (in terms of grades scored in the previous written exam) would be eligible, making it a total of 2000 applicants. However, to ensure parity, a scholarship is assured for each academic year of each participating institute.

Therefore, you would be competing against 19 other applicants from your academic year of your institute, for the scholarship.

Q. How does OPJEMS identify the students eligible for the scholarship?
Ans : This would be a three step process:

• The institute would provide a list of top 20 students (from each year in your institute), on the basis of their academic performance at the institute. These students will fill in an online application form.
• These 20 students would write an online objective type exam.
• Those shortlisted from the above would undergo a personal interview. The personal interview would take into account the student’s credentials as given in the application form and also his/her answers to the essays type questions answered there.

Q. What is the duration / tenure of the scholarship process?
Ans : 2007-08 the selection process will start in August as the fresh batches of Engineering and Management Institutes enroll. The entire selection process would be finished by the end of October and the students would be notified in November. The scholarship money would be awarded to the students in August of 2008 as reimbursement for the fees paid by the student in that year.

Q. What are the critical deadlines?

3. Personal Interview : September 10 - 15, 2007
4. Announcement of results : September 29, 2007

Q. When do I get the scholarship prize amount?
Ans : For 2007- 08, the scholarship amount will be given to the student in July/August 2008.

Q. Can I defer my scholarship?
Ans : There is no scheme of deferring the scholarship. The student would have to make his arrangements that he receives the money from the college within the period specified, failing which the student would have forfeited the amount.

Q. Would I be required to sign any long term bonds (eg: taking up a job with Jindal after graduation) if I accept the scholarship?
Ans : No. There are no bonds to be signed in order to accept the scholarship.

Q. If at present, I am already holding some other scholarship, would I still be eligible for OPJEMS?
Ans : The process does not believe in disqualifying any student on the grounds that he has proved his/ her merit before. So yes, a student already holding another scholarship can compete for OPJEMS, provided he/ she meets the criterion.

Q. Is Financial need of the student also taken into account while deciding on award of the scholarship?
Ans : No, OPJEMS is a scholarship which is distributed purely on the basis of merit and financial needs is not taken into account in any of the decisions.
